Hi Lavinia - thank you for visiting my profile and leaving a comment. You asked me about painting with acrylic in washes ... well to be perfectly frank I do it because its the only way I know! I use water or acrylic medium to thin the paint, then apply. Sometimes I rub some of the washes down to remove some of the pigment and let the lower layers peep through. I also use modelling paste or gesso to create texture or resistance to the paint. It''s all very much trial and error ... mostly error, ha!ha! To tell you the truth I am a bit bogged down over acrylics at present so have gone back to pastels for a while. And today I bought my first oil paints ... looking forward to playing with those.
