About Me

I draw and paint. Small things mostly, that catch my eye. Three years ago I returned to the easel after a long gap (the world can be confusing sometimes) and realised that I was rubbish and had to retrain myself. Still life seemed a good place to start, and somewhere along the way I got hooked on it. I'm mostly interested in light. I like those quiet, peaceful little moments that you find in odd corners of the day, and try to get something of that into my pictures.

Paul, I would say your "retraining" has been highly successful. Your paintings are beautiful with a quiet and contemplative spirit about them.

Paul - I''m looking forward to seeing more of your work - especially in color! The painting of the iron is lovely - colors, composition and the feeling of quiet beauty. Wonderful!

Thanks very much Regina. I should have a couple of colour ones coming soon. The iron painting is a study for a larger one, the same set up as the drawing, which I'' working on at the moment. It seems to be taking forever...

Hi Paul, Thanks for the lovely comment. That is very funny and coincidental that you saw my painting in your frame shop! I presume it is Porcelain and Fruit? It was one of mine that was selected for the Small Works Catalogue for The Greenwich Workshop. It seems to really be getting around.

Paul, the curious thing about your black and white images, in particular the olives, is that I can see the colour in them. I believe the Asian sumi e painters tend to achieve a similar result. Wonderful work!

Thanks Darrel, that''s very nice to hear. I think it''s all in the values - something of a personal obsession with me :)

Way to keep it honest. Great paintings.

Hi Paul, I just love your still life studies, though it would be really nice to see more in colour. Your work is painted with much sensitivity for the subject matter. Thanks for sharing. Irene
